Caps, NHL Announce First-Round SchedulePosted on April 28, 2013 by Mike Vogel
After tearing through a 48-game regular season in 99 nights, the Caps will have a bit more leisure time than they expected between the end of the 2012-13 campaign and the start of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Caps’ longest gap between games all season was three days, but they’ll have a gaping four-day gap between Saturday’s regular season finale – a 3-2 overtime win over the Bruins at Verizon Center – and their playoff opener.
The payback for those days to prepare for the New York Rangers early this week is a set of games on back-to-back nights if the series goes the distance. Games 6 and 7 would be played on consecutive nights.
Washington opens its Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the New York Rangers on home ice, hosting the Blueshirts at Verizon Center on Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 is also in Washington on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
The series then shifts to Broadway for Games 3 and 4. Game 3 is Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Game 4 is Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.
If necessary, Game 5 will be back in Washington on Friday May 10 at 7:30 p.m.. Game 6 would be in New York on Sunday May 12 at a time to be determined, and Game 7 would be back in the District on the very next night, also at a time to be determined.
